Characteristics
Only the policyholder can be covered. Furthermore, for the benefit to be issued and payable and continue to be paid, the contract must stay in force if the policyholder dies (therefore, another insured is required).
During the first 24 months, the insured is considered totally disabled if, as a result of an illness or accident:
- He or she is unable to perform the important duties of his regular occupation
- He or she is not engaged in any gainful activity
- He or she is receiving on-going medical care
After receiving benefits for 24 months, the insured will continue to receive benefits if:
- He or she is unable to perform a replacement occupation
- He or she is not engaged in any gainful activity
- He or she is receiving on-going medical care
